The IJP seeks to appoint a new Associate Editor

The International Journal of Primatology is the official journal of the International Primatological Society. It is a multidisciplinary forum devoted to the dissemination of current research in fundamental Primatology. You can find more information about the journal here: www.springer.com/10764

We provide detailed Instructions for Authors and Guidelines for Reviewers (see the journal homepage).

Associate Editors invite reviews, request revisions, assess revised manuscripts and make a recommendation concerning acceptance or rejection to me. I take all final decisions, as Editor-in-Chief. Associate Editors are responsible for approximately one new manuscript per month. Due to revisions and resubmissions this means that they handle several manuscripts at a time.

Further duties are similar to those of the Editorial Board:

– acting as ambassadors for the journal

– supporting and promoting the journal

– seeking out the best authors and best work and actively encouraging submissions

– attending and contributing to occasional editorial board meetings and email discussions

Associate Editors receive a small annual honorarium from the publisher. The role is appropriate for an Early Career academic, at post-doctoral level or in their first permanent post.

In recruiting new Associate Editors, we hope to complement the profile of the existing Associate Editors in terms of theoretical expertise and taxonomic specialism. We also aim to reflect the international nature of the journal. We strongly encourage applications from individuals from groups that are underrepresented in science.

If you are interested in this role, please send a short CV (max 2 pages) and a cover letter to the Editor-In-Chief, Prof Jo Setchell (joanna.setchell@durham.ac.uk), explaining why you consider yourself a good candidate for the role. Please include your experience reviewing and editing manuscripts. Editing experience is not essential, as this is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in this area.

If you’re not sure that you would be an appropriate candidate, please email Jo to ask. If you know an appropriate candidate, please pass on this invitation and encourage them to apply.
